Nova Scotia Creates New Immigration Stream for Physicians

The Canadian province of Nova Scotia created a new immigration stream to attract general practitioners, family physicians, and specialist physicians.

The Nova Scotia Nominee Program – Physician Stream is designed to assist Nova Scotia’s public health authorities – the Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA) and the Izaak Walton Killam Health Centre (IWK) – to recruit physicians with required skills for positions that they have been unable to fill.

How does it work?

1. Obtain a job offer from the NSHA or the IWK Centre as a general practitioner and family physician (NOC 3112) or a specialist physician (NOC 3111). Visit the following link for job postings: http://www.nshealth.ca/careers.
2. Submit a complete application package by email to the Nova Scotia Office of Immigration.
3. If you are nominated by the Province of Nova Scotia, you may then apply to the Government of Canada for a permanent resident visa through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

The program is currently focused on recruiting physicians from Australia, Ireland, the United States, and the United Kingdom; however, it is not limited to those countries.
