If Only You Were Here…

The holiday season is an exciting time for everyone, with joyful celebrations and social events for the whole family. Everyone should be with their family and friends for the holidays, but sadly this isn’t as easy as it sounds.

Many factors push people to leave their homes and build a new one elsewhere, leaving behind loved ones. Fortunately, Canada has one of the most generous family reunification programs in the developed world.

Canadian citizens and permanent residents may sponsor close family members for Canadian immigration. Close family members include, but not limited to, spouse, common-law, or conjugal partner, parents, grandparents and dependent children.

Parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents may also be eligible to apply for the parent and grandparent super visa.

Citizenship and Immigration Canada will resume intake of new applications under the parent and grandparent program (PGP) starting January 2, 2015. In 2014, there was a cap of 5,000 applicants accepted for processing under the most recent PGP application cycle, which opened in January 2014. This allocation was reached in just three weeks, and the program has since been closed.

Anyone wishing to sponsor relatives should get their application in as soon as possible. And once again, we want to do our part to help reunite families. Contact us today to get started on your application.

From our family to yours, Azzi Law wishes you a happy holiday.
