Starting on 1 April 2025, expired Refugee Protection Claimant Documents (RPCDs) will no longer be valid. Refugee claimants must renew their expired RPCDs or request replacements for lost ones using the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) web form, as paper applications will no longer be accepted.

RPCDs are essential identification documents that grant refugee claimants, whose claims are eligible and referred to the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada, access to services like the Interim Federal Health Program. They are also issued to ineligible claimants who may later apply for a pre-removal risk assessment (PRRA).

It is crucial for claimants to renew their RPCDs before the deadline to avoid disruptions in accessing essential services. Renewed RPCDs will be mailed or made available for pick-up at local IRCC offices.
